WOLA CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

There are a handful of clubs and organizations at Austin Community College created with the express interest of celebrating and learning more about foreign languages and/or culture. Some of these include the French Club, Latin Club, Chaju Chinese, Hispanic Student Association, East Asian Culture Society and World Community Club. If you would like to get involved with an existing club or even start one of your own, please visit Student Life Clubs & Organizations to learn more.

ALPHA MU GAMMA

Alpha Mu Gamma is the national collegiate foreign language honor society of the United States, founded in 1931. More than three hundred chapters have been granted to chapters in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Chapters are both in state and private universities and in public and private two and four year colleges.

Alpha Mu Gamma has as its primary purpose the honoring of students for outstanding achievement during their first year of foreign language study in college. However, students may be admitted at any stage in their college careers. Upon initiation a member receives a parchment certificate of membership and may wear the scroll-shaped gold pin.

Activities of the Society are: the publication of the quarterly newsletter; biennial national conventions, at which students are able to meet others who share their interest in foreign languages; the sponsorship of National Foreign Languages Week and distribution of posters in celebration of the week; and the annual awarding of five scholarships: there $500 for the study of any foreign language; one $400 for the study of French; and one $200 for the study of Esperanto of Spanish, and the selection of one member candidate for the summer French scholarships at Laval University in Québec.
