Austin Community College’s Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, in partnership with Austin Book Arts Center and Refugee Services of Texas presents:
A week-long residency by Peace Paper Project
Participants joined Peace Paper Project Director Drew Matott at ACC’s Rio Grande campus.
Participants were invited to take part in the transformative process of papermaking. They could hop on a bike-operated Hollander beater to make paper from their own clothing, Austin community clothing, and clothing from Peace Paper’s latest workshop with Syrian immigrants in Germany.
Participants made beautiful sheets of paper using traditional and contemporary papermaking techniques; including pulp printing.
On Friday Nov. 11, Community members had the opportunity work with the dried paper through a day of creative writing and journal making, and art.
Peace Paper Project is an international organization of hand papermakers, art therapists, and social activists.
