STEPS FOR CREDIT STUDENTS

1.  Apply for financial aid (Optional)

Students can find out more about financial aid here. The basic process is:

Step 1: Fill out and submit the FAFSA. Include ACC’s FAFSA code on the application.

Step 2: Track the status of your application through ACC mail and ACC Financial Self-Service.

2. TSI Test

Unless you are exempt, you must take the TSI test at least once. If you took it in the past, you do not need to take it again. If you haven’t ever taken it,  and you are not exempt, you will need to take the TSI test now.

  • Check to see if you are exempt. Scroll down on this page to read all the exemptions. If you have a bachelor’s degree from your home country, you are probably exempt.
  • If you are not exempt, follow the instructions on this page to make an appointment for the test and take the test.
  • TSI COMPLETION: ESOL students can become TSI complete by passing ESOL exit-level courses. Although they still must take (or have taken) the TSI test at some point, students who pass these courses do not have to have passing TSI scores. Learn more about TSI completion on this page

3. Log on to Self-Service to confirm your academic program, plan your classes and check for holds. For an overview of the process, see this video

  1. Confirm academic program: Go to Student Planning>My Progress. Your academic program will be listed at the top. If you want to change your program, you can do this when you meet with your advisor (Step 5 below.)
  2. Check for holds: If you have any holds, they will be listed as “notifications” at the top of the page. Each notification will guide you through the steps to clear the hold on your account.

4. Find and make an appointment to meet your Area of Study Advisor

5. Meet with your Area of Study Advisor

  • Confirm TSI status. You should be complete in Reading and Writing if you have taken the TSI test (or if you are exempt) and passed Reading and Vocabulary 4 and Writing 4.
  • Confirm academic program.
  • Plan and register for courses
