El Centro is the Latin American Cultural Center located at the Riverside Campus.

The director is Dr. Gary Moreno (History department) and the Coordinator is Samantha Zavela Creek.

For October 2023, The Latin American Cultural Center “El Centro” is excited to announce our October event lineup. All events are free and open to the entire ACC community including students, staff, and faculty.

El Centro is welcoming Roj Rodriguez to the Riverside Campus on Thursday October 12 from 12-2pm for a conversation about his recent work Mi Sangre. You may have seen the selected photos from this collection at your campus Student Life office. Roj will join us for an in-depth conversation about this work, as well as lunch and rounds of loteria where the grand prize will be framed prints of the photos currently on display on the campuses.

On Tuesday October 17 from 4-5pm El Centro will host Elida Guardia Bonet for our next “Cafecito con…” speaker event. Elida will be talking about the legendary La Llorona throughout Latin America. Coffee and snacks will be available.

Our first book talk of the school year will take place on Wednesday October 18 from 2-3pm when El Centro welcomes visiting author and Professor Dr. Bernadine Hernández from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Hernández will discuss her book Border Bodies: Racialized Sexuality, Sexual Capital, and Violence in the Nineteenth-Century Borderlands. Light refreshments will be available.

Last but not least, Cine at El Centro is back with the 2014 movie “Life After Beth” on Thursday October 26 from 12-2pm. Join us for this horror comedy starring Latina actress Aubrey Plaza as we head into peak spooky season. Movie snacks and refreshments are provided.
