Rubi graduated from the University of Texas Pan American with an M.S. in Sociology in 2008. She has 14 years of traditional teaching experience with both dual enrollment high school students and college freshmen. Rubi taught one year as a Lecturer at her alma mater, UTPA in 2013. Since June of 2008, Rubi has continued employment with South Texas College teaching Intro to Sociology each year. In addition, she has also taught Marriage and Family and Social Inequality. Rubi now calls Austin her home, relocating in 2015 to be close to grandchildren from her hometown of McAllen. She is so thankful to be part of the diverse Austin Community College family as an adjunct instructor teaching both Introduction to Sociology and Effective Learning Strategies for College Success (EDUC 1300 course) in the Student Development Department since 2016. Rubi has mentored Latinx students in the ACC Ascender Program and is a Voting Task-Force member of the Department of Sociology and Social Work. Rubi’s other passion in life is her long-standing 25 years as an Early Childhood Montessori guide. Having received her American Montessori Society certification in 1991 she taught hundreds of children until she retired in 2015. Rubi continues her Montessori journey by teaching adult learners in an 18-month certification process, working as a Field consultant and Practicum advisor through the Center for Guided Montessori Studies Training Center in Tampa, Florida.  Rubi enjoys her life in Austin with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren; Ayla 6 yrs old and Blake 4 yrs old. Rubi brings her strong cultural Mexican values to everyone she meets to share the proud heritage of her ancestors.
