Christopher Whalin – Adjunct Professor of Philosophy

Biography

I received a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2007. I completed my graduate work in philosophy at Columbia University in the City of New York receiving an M.A. in 2010 and an M.Phil. in 2012.

My publications include: C.M. Whalin, “Endurance, Perdurance, and the Psychological Continuity Criterion of Personal Identity”, published in Southwest Philosophical Studies, Vol. 31, 2008.

Teaching Philosophy

I have three major objectives I am aiming to achieve when teaching philosophy:

  1. Provide students with experience in critically evaluating arguments and viewpoints, including their own;
  2. familiarize students with major issues and ideas in the history of philosophy; and
  3. try to encourage students to guard against all forms of dogmatism and foster an open, yet critical, mindset.

My classes are, for the most part, lecture-based. I, however, welcome and encourage class discussions.
