Carrie Simpson
Carrie Simpson – Adjunct Professor of Humanities
Biography
Carrie is putting her unique background to work in her Humanities classes at ACC. She holds a minor in Music, a BA in English, an MA in Humanities: Literary Studies and a PhD in Education: Curriculum and Instruction. She has written two books on educating students through approaches to differentiation (Design DI: CAP Activities for Process Differentiation; Design DI: How to Differentiate for Overexcitabilities). Carrie also works as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Texas at Dallas in their Teacher Development Center. When she is not teaching Humanities, she is traveling the country offering professional development to teachers, administrators and curriculum teams. She spends a good deal of her research time on brain-based instruction and how we can best utilize our developments in neuroscience to meet the learning needs of all students. Prior to teaching at the college level, Carrie was a high school English teacher, a curriculum writer, and an expert in the fields of special education, gifted education, and differentiation.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe in meeting my students’ needs through varied instructional techniques. I utilize interactive lessons, discussions (in class and online), inquiry driven learning, and multi-media information sharing. I want students to have a good time in a safe learning atmosphere while they challenge their own thinking about how we are all connected and how the study of humanities helps us understand this global connection.
