Teaching Philosophy

As a teacher, I encourage my students to be engaged readers and effective writers who think critically about the texts we examine in class and the world they encounter outside of the classroom. Students’ personal interaction with their fellow students and myself contribute in a vital way to both their awareness of audience and their sense of ethos. Therefore, I attempt to establish a community of learners who consider critically their own voice and views, their audience’s views, and their subject matter, hopefully becoming more effective citizens of the communities they belong to in and outside of the classroom.
