Sunshine Heenen – Adjunct Professor of Humanities and Philosophy

Bio:
Sunshine (Sunny) Heenen is a philosopher, writer, and editor with a passion for teaching. She has taught at Austin Community College for three years and primarily facilitates online ethics courses. In her spare time, Sunny enjoys aerial arts, cooking yummy vegan food, and snuggling her two Maine coon cats.

Teaching Philosophy:
My courses are student-focused, featuring unique learning experiences tailored to equally unique individuals in a classroom that values differences and co-creative spaces. What excites me is sharing philosophical ideas with my students and witnessing their process of engagement, the ways in which they contextualize within their own lived experiences, and the ways in which they begin to think more deeply, anew, diving headfirst into the adventurous waters of what it means to be human together.

Areas of interest:
Ethics, social/political philosophy, feminism, metaphysics, critical literary theory

Courses taught at ACC:
  • Ethics
  • Introduction to Philosophy
  • The Great Questions Seminar
