She has already achieved two major milestones, earning her GED and becoming a US citizen. Liliana says she feels grateful for the opportunities ACC and the ESOL Program have afforded her since coming to the US from Holgu\u00edn in southeastern Cuba.\u00a0<\/span><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2276 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/liberalarts.austincc.edu\/esol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/05\/IMG_2871-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"A group of women and a girl in front of a blue banner.\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/liberalarts.austincc.edu\/esol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/05\/IMG_2871-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/liberalarts.austincc.edu\/esol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/05\/IMG_2871-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/liberalarts.austincc.edu\/esol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/05\/IMG_2871-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/liberalarts.austincc.edu\/esol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/05\/IMG_2871-1536x2048.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/liberalarts.austincc.edu\/esol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/05\/IMG_2871-scaled.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Liliana started at ACC in the School of College Readiness (formerly Adult Education) beginner\u2019s ESL program and moved into the academic ESOL Program in Spring 2026. She describes her ESOL experience as overwhelmingly positive, sharing, \u201cBefore taking ESOL, I felt sad, but now I feel comfortable because I learned writing, grammar, and oral communication skills in my ESOL classes.\u201d Liliana will continue coursework in these skill areas and will also take Reading and Vocabulary courses in the summer and fall semesters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Like most ESOL students, Liliana balances multiple responsibilities, including caring for her child and working as a caregiver. She is planning for future opportunities in digital marketing and real estate. She invests her free time in self-care and personal health by going to the gym and staying active, pursuits she greatly enjoys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Khan, Liliana\u2019s former Oral Communication 1 instructor, notes that Liliana stood out for her confidence, energy, and willingness to participate in class discussions, sharing insights and opinions. She brought a bright, enthusiastic presence to the classroom and encouraged others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Liliana has a simple yet powerful message for current and future ESOL students: \u201cFeeling scared is normal. Keep going.
