Balcones Prize
We believe that writers deserve to be compensated for the vital work they do. Each year, we award an outstanding work of fiction, poetry, and creative non fiction a Balcones Literary Prize. To help support their continued work, the winners each receive $1,500, as well as travel and lodging to read from their prize-winning work and teach a class with Austin Community College students in Austin, TX. Winners also serve as the final judge in their genre for the following year’s Balcones Prize.
The Balcones Center for Creative Writing at Austin Community College is pleased to announce the Balcones Fiction Prize ($1,500) in recognition of an outstanding book of fiction.
- Prize Information Eligibility: Books of prose may be submitted by author or publisher; send three copies; books must bear a publication date between January 1, 2025 and December 23, 2025.
- Nominations Accepted: September 1, 2025 – January 31, 2026.
- Reading fee: $30

- Prize Information Eligibility: Books of poetry of 42 pages or more may be submitted by author or publisher; send three copies; books must bear a publication date between January 1, 2025 and December 23, 2025.
- Nominations Accepted: September 1, 2025 – January 31, 2026.
- Reading fee: $25
Balcones Prize for Creative Nonfiction
The Balcones Center for Creative Writing at Austin Community College is pleased to announce the Balcones Creative Nonfiction Prize ($1,500) in recognition of an outstanding book of creative nonfiction.
- Prize Information Eligibility: Books of literary nonfiction may be submitted by author or publisher; send three copies; books must bear a publication date between January 1, 2025 and December 23, 2025.
- Nominations Accepted: September 1, 2025 – January 31, 2026.
- Reading fee: $30
