Please check our website and join us in other events.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Saint Omer (2022)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wednesday, February 21, 2024<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, 3:30-6:00 PM (RGC)<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>This event will be held in person @ 1212 Rio Grande Street | Building 1000, Room 1103 (Multipurpose Room) | Austin, Texas 78701<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rama, a literature professor and novelist, travels from Paris to Saint-Omer to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">observe the trial of Laurence Coly and write about the case. Coly is a student and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Senegalese immigrant accused of leaving her 15-month-old daughter on a beach to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be swept away by the tide in Berck. Rama, who is four months pregnant and, like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Coly, is in a mixed-race relationship and has a complex relationship with her own <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Senegalese immigrant mother, feels a personal connection to Coly. She plans to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">write a modern-day retelling of the Greek Medea myth about the case. As she learns <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">more about Coly\u2019s life and the isolation Coly experienced from her family and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">society while living in France, Rama becomes increasingly anxious about her own life <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and pregnancy.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><strong> After the screening:<\/strong> Let&#8217;s come together to share some delicious pizza slices.
